Here is my recipe for 'German Meatballs and Gravy' (Dawn's style)

  •
  • 2 lbs lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • fine bread crumbs (I like Progresso Italian or herbed bread crumbs)
  • 2 eggs
  • optional additions Green & Red Bell Peppers finely chopped & minced garlic
If you are serving with mashed potatoes, be sure and start your potatoes first before you start the meatballs.

Beat the eggs and then mix well with the ground beef.  Add in your vegetables and then mix in enough bread crumbs to allow the mix to hold together and season with salt and pepper.

I use a little bit of olive oil to start with and then form the meatballs and brown.  Put the browned meatballs in a baking dish while you make the gravy by adding some flour to the drippings and it is always a bit tastier to add the potato water to make the gravy,  season as you like and then pour this over the meatballs and put in a 350 oven until ready to serve.

You can always put this in the refrigerator until you are ready to make your meal just allow more time to heat through.

The other thing I do with this recipe is to make 'Sweet and Sour Meatballs' by adding your favorite sweet and sour sauce or bar-b-q sauce over and then just heat through in a slower oven.

My family seems to really enjoy them all the different ways!
