Happy 3rd Anniversary

This is Dawn Nyborg, I want to invite you to join me on "the Vertical Connection", heard weekdays from 2:00 - 4:00 PM on Psalm 99:5 FM! We are now into our fourth year of broadcasting the program and wow, that means that we have also held three ladies' conferences, amazing! I hope you will come along for the journey. We worship to great music that will bring you into the presence of the Father and cause your heart to sing with praise to the Lord Most High. I will also share challenging and thought provoking readings that will help you to go deeper in your relationship with the Father. So join me and together we will "Draw Near to the Father's Heart".

Do you enjoy cooking and do others enjoy your cooking? If so you must take a peek at a new beginning, Dawn's Cookbook. With recipes from you, the listener.

This is a recipe for you and your kids to make together for Easter

Birds Nest Snacks

  • 3 cups miniature Marshmallows
  • 3 Tbsp Butter
  • 2 Tbsp Peanut Butter
  • 1 can of 5 oz. chow mein noodles

In a heavy saucepan over low heat, cook marshmallows, butter and peanut butter until marshmallows are melted, stir in the chow mein noodles. Divide into 12 mounds on wax paper. With buttered hands, quickly shape each mound into a nest.

You will make an indentation in the center so they look like little birds nests. Then take and fill the centers with jelly beans. (You can put the nests in a cupcake liner if you wish.)

Baklava

The anonymous person who responded to my request for Baklava pinned this recipe to my 'Greeter' nametag at church so I can't even give that person credit for it. I will let you know what I think after trying it. I looks so...simple!

"A Greek favorite that makes everyone think you are a master chef and is sooo easy to make!!! I taught a Greek friend how to make apple pie and she taught me this fabulous recipe. The phyllo dough for this recipe is found in the freezer section of most grocery stores. Add a little lemon zest to the sugar sauce, if desired."

1 (16 oz.) package phyllo dough

1 lb. chopped nuts

1 cup butter

1 tsp. ground cinnamon

1 cup water

1 cup white sugar

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1/2 cup honey

Preheat oven to 350 degrees (175 c.) Butter the bottoms and sides of a 9 x 13" pan.

Chop nuts and toss with cinnamon. Set aside. Unroll phyllo dough. Cut whole stack in half to fit pan. Cover phyllo with a dampened cloth to keep from drying out as you work. Place two sheets of dough in pan, butter thoroughly. Repeat until you have 8 sheets layered. Sprinkle 2-3 Tbsps of nut mixture on top. Top with two sheets of dough, butter, nuts, layering as you go. The top layer should be about 6-8 sheets deep.

Using a sharp knife cut into diamond or square s all the way to the bottom of the pan. You may cut into 4 long rows then make your diagonal cuts. Bake this for about 50 minutes until baklava is golden and crisp.

Make sauce while baklava is baking. Boil sugar and water until sugar is melted. Add vanilla and honey. Simmer for about 20 minutes.

Remove baklava from oven and immediately spoon sauce over it. Let cool. Serve in cupcake papers. This freezes well. Leave it uncovered a it gets soggy if it is wrapped up.
